About
The researcher behind the method.
The short version
Dr. Marcus Hale is a behavioral psychologist who researches how humans bounce back from upheaval — redundancies, diagnoses, recessions, unremarkable Tuesdays. He tracks the same people across difficult years to learn what genuinely helps, then converts those insights into tools anyone can pick up.
He addresses around sixty audiences a year, publishes the weekly essays read by 200,000 people monthly, and presents the Adaptable podcast. His books — The Adaptable Mind, Built to Bend, and Steady at Work — appear in nine languages.
The longer version
Marcus began in clinical practice before shifting to behavioral science, troubled that psychology described collapse far better than comeback. His doctoral research followed nurses through a hospital merger, and one question has steered everything since: why does the same blow end some careers while focusing others?
Ten years on, the answer spans three books and a six-week program, the Adaptability Protocol: recovery can be learned, it takes minutes a day, and it runs mostly through other people. These days he divides his time between a continuing study of managers in demanding sectors, the keynote stage, and a writing desk supervised by a remarkably tolerant dog.
